Another reason to stay at Rincon Country: Tucson ranks No. 6 for clean air
1/7/2009 - According to a recent newpaper article in the Tucson Citizen, Tucson has the country's sixth-cleanest air in year-round particle pollution, says an annual survey put out by the American Lung Association. Tucson joined Cheyenne, WY; Sante Fe, NM; Honolulu; Great Falls, MT; Farmington, NM; Bismarck, ND; and No. 8 Flagstaff as cities with the least particle pollution. That's typically made up of ash, soot, diesel exhaust, chemicals, metals and aerosols.The group considers particle pollutin the most dangerous of the widespread outdoor air pollutants. Los Angeles; Pittsburgh; Bakersfield, CA; Visalia, CA; and Atlanta have the most year-round particle pollution, the group said.
Tucson ranked among the best 25 with short-term particle pollution measured over 24 hours. The Old Pueblo had no orange, red or purple warning particle days.
In the third category, the association gave Tucson a "B" in ozone, with the city having one orange day, the least serious rating.
Phoenix was the 19th most-polluted city for ozone, receiving an "F" for 24 orange days.
